As the number of women of childbearing age entering the workforce continues to increase, employers are experiencing the impact of pregnancy at the Worksite. At the same time, expenses related to childbirth are often the single largest component of health care costs, ranging from 10% to 49% of all expenses. The emotional and financial impact on employees, families and employers have prompted the need to provide resources and intervention to address this issue.

Health Net a Health Maintenance Organization with 1.3 million members, maintains its role as a leader in the health care industry by recognizing quality of care as the foundation of our medical delivery system. By working together with our provider network, employers and members in a variety of interventions, we are better able to measure and manage quality of care.

Honeywell - Life$avers

Honeywell's Life$avers Health Incentive Program focuses on risk reduction of health conditions which generate the company's greatest healthcare costs. The program is designed to recognize and reward employees who practice healthy behaviors or make changes to improve health. Employees who successfully complete the four-part program receive a $200 cash award at the end of the year.

Marriott - Wellness and You

Wellness & You! began as a comprehensive wellness program in 1993, funded through a budget from the Corporate Benefits department. The program's name and logo were donated from MMS's existing client food service program.

Pacific Bell - FitWorks

A health information service available through a toll-free phone number, staffed by a registered nurse/health professionals; provides confidential information on health topics, general medical questions, registration for Step In Time prenatal program, VDT Hotline and information on other FitWorks/Health Promotion programs. Employees, retirees and their dependents can call between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Shields for Families Project, Inc

SHIELDS was formed in 1987 in response to the high incidence of infants born at Martin Luther King Hospital in South Central Los Angeles who were prenatally exposed to drugs. Utilizing a fiscal intermediary, SHIELDS implemented three programs to target the special needs of these infants. In 1991, SHIELDS incorporated as a State of California private, non-profit organization with a focus on family based services addressing issues inherent to this community. Since that time, SHIELDS has rapidly grown into a nationally recognized and respected human service agency.

UNUM - Wellpower Program

Wellpower is a comprehensive health promotion program offered to Unum employees, retirees and family members. The Wellpower Program's goals include promoting the health and well-being of employees and their families, contributing to a productive and positive work environment, focusing on customer needs and providing innovative solutions to evolving health promotion and disease and disability prevention need- as Unum's employee population grows older. Wellpower is committed to providing programs that are cost-beneficial and cost-effective.

Wisconson Education Association (WEA) Insurance Trust - Taking Care

The Wisconsin Education Association Insurance Trust (WEA), William M. Mercer, Incorporated (Mercer), and The Center of Corporate Health, Inc. (CCHI) collaborated to assess the impact of The Taking Care "demand management" program on complications of pregnancy, medical care utilization and associated benefit expenses.
